Strong Women Take Over the World!

I’m in an interesting ‘strong women take over the world’ mode right now.

Here’s what’s been going on lately in the Powers household and business where the dudes outnumber the ladies 5 to 2. (Me and 4 boys plus my wife and our daughter, in case you were wondering).

Hurricane Irma just left us with a ton of rain, lots of wind, and a flooded floor. Is it just me or do hurricanes named after women seem really fierce? I got sandblasted by the winds just checking out the waves yesterday…

I started compiling a book to give to my daughter when she turns 13. We just finished a Rite of Passage event for our 13yo son, and we plan something similar for Astrid, who’s only three right now. This book really has me thinking about the lessons I want to pass on to her.

I’m reading Rise by Cara Brookins. It’s an awesome book my wife recommended to me about a woman with 4 kids who escaped two abusive marriages and built a house. That’s right, she and her four kids built their house from the ground up. It’s an amazing story of recovery and growth!

Do a Google search for “Rise by Cara Brookins”, and you’ll see some really cool pics of her and the kids in construction mode. I love it!

I like to read small sections of a book in the am during my Miracle Morning routine that I need to digest in small snippets. Right now, my morning book is You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. As soon as I saw the title, I knew she was talking about me. The book is written for anyone that wants to be a badass, but I’m really enjoying reading the personal stories from her about being a woman badass. And Jen certainly is!

Then there’s always the usual role models from real life and television that inspire me to the wonder and absolute beauty of strong women, like Lagertha from the Vikings television show. A single mom, divorced and abused, who worked her way up to being a queen. She’s played by Katheryn Winnick, who’s a real life badass in her own right.

But enough about my female role models. Tell me about yours. Feel free to comment. I’d love to know who you look up to.

Even more important, moms and dads, what do you plan on teaching your daughters to inspire them to unleash their greatness?
