It doesn’t matter what time of year it is. As the year winds down, winds up, or hits the middle summer, you should be thinking about one thing most people put off until it’s too late.
Taxes.
Here’s the thing most folks miss-
Saving money on your taxes is one of the best side hustles you can run.
It doesn’t require more hours.
It doesn’t require a new skill.
And it doesn’t require chasing the next shiny opportunity.
It’s just about not giving away more than you have to.
To get into the right frame of mind about taxes and how much fun and income-producing it can be, check out…
Tax-Free Wealth: How to Build Massive Wealth by Permanently Lowering Your Taxes. This book by Tom Wheelwright is eye-opening regarding seeing taxes not as a necessary eveil, but as a source of income.
Home Business Tax Savings Strategies. I did a whole series on this in my podcast. You can watch the videos or listen to the podcast.
If you use someone to do your taxes, that’s great. Just make sure they’re not just a tax preparer. Refer to Tom’s book above to know how to identify a good one.
If you’re still doing your own, I recommend TurboTax over H&R Block for DIY software.

For year-round bookkeeping, I’ve been using Quickbooks since the Stone Age. It’s easy for me to manage multiple businesses of my own and even help some of my consulting clients.

All this matters even more if you’re involved in crypto.
Strong gains feel great, right up until you realize how complicated crypto taxes can get if you’re not prepared. That’s why I’m a big believer in trusting this stuff to proven software and platforms, not spreadsheets, guesses, or “I’ll figure it out later.”
Because “later” is usually the most expensive option.
I’ve seen too many smart people wait until March or April, scrambling to untangle transactions, wallets, and exchanges and paying more than they should simply because they waited.
I use Zen Ledger for all my cryptocurrency taxes. It keeps track of all the transactions, which could be thousands with only a few investments. Then, at tax time, it completes the IRS forms for you.
Here’s a link to check it out- https://app.zenledger.io/
The best time to think about taxes isn’t tax season.
It’s now.
While you still have time to make clean decisions, use solid tools, and set yourself up so future-you isn’t dealing with a mess.
No pitch here.
Just a reminder from someone who’s learned (sometimes the hard way) that boring, proactive moves often create the biggest long-term wins.
Take care of it now. Your future self will thank you.
By the way, I also teahc more about this inside my Income Engine Academy if you’re interested in more than a DIY approach.
